We Are Tired: Supporting the “Strong Black Woman” in a Therapeutic Relationship
In a time of dissension, opposition, and divide it is especially important that we as mental health professionals are mindful of how we intervene when working with clients who have differing or are struggling to engage with people of differing value systems and beliefs. Using Kingian Nonviolence as a case study, this course encourages participants to engage in critical self-reflection by exploring various nuances and influences on their own values, ethics, and morals and how these beliefs impact their interactions with others.

Continuing competence is the responsibility of the individual social worker—not the CE provider, the licensing board, or the professional association. It is the individual social worker’s responsibility to understand their jurisdiction’s requirements for continuing education—how their jurisdiction tabulates CE time (“clock hours” versus “contact hours,” for example), which types of courses will not be accepted, etc.
The individual social worker’s jurisdiction’s social work board always has the final say about whether the continuing education courses will be approved. Therefore, please familiarize yourself with your licensing board’s continuing education rules before registering for this course. If you’re considering a particular CE program and have a question about whether your board will accept it, contact your board for clarification before you register for the course. Refunds will not be issued for social workers in jurisdictions that do not approve this course.
-
This course is Approved Continuing Education (ACE) by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). ACE approval means that the provider’s program meets ACE standards and allows it to offer continuing education credit to social workers as an ACE provider or approved individual course. Approval is not endorsement of the quality or usefulness of certification programs a provider may offer to social workers.
